Potential homeowners don’t only use their sense of sight to decide on the home they will buy, but also their sense of smell. Smell has a large impact on our lives and evoke strong emotions - like whether or not a potential home is suitable or not.

If your home is clean with no disconcernable odor, subtle scents such as lemon or green apple and cucumbers are good options. Chocolate chip cookies have been disproved - they are cliche and don’t make a difference. Strong scented potpourri and candles overwhelm buyers into thinking they are masking a strong odor.

Always keep it subtle. Using light scents like lemon or vanilla give potential buyers a subconscious memory link without it being a focal point. A flameless (no mess, no safety risk!) candle that operates with a timer is perfect way to time the scent release and letting it linger between showings.
